United for Literacy offers free national online programs that support adults and learners throughout their learning journey. Whether you are building foundational skills, preparing for further education, or working toward new opportunities, our programs are designed to meet learners where they are. These programs are supported by trained facilitators and volunteers who provide guidance, encouragement, and personalized learning support.

National Online Adult Learning Learning Disabilities Project

  • National Online Adult Learning

    The National Online Adult Learning (NOAL) program supports adults who want to improve their reading, writing, numeracy, and basic technology skills to enhance employment opportunities, pursue further education, and increase independence. The program relies on volunteers and interns who serve as facilitators and tutors. Programming includes workshops on various literacy topics and one-to-one tutoring for learners.

  • Learning Disabilities Project

    The United for Literacy Learning Disabilities Project supports adults by providing assessments to identify learning disabilities and other learning challenges that may affect their educational progress. Participants receive personalized support, accommodations, and learning strategies tailored to their unique needs. The project empowers learners to overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their literacy, education, and employment goals.

Our approach

The national team works with staff across the country in partnership with communities and our regional teams. We equip staff, volunteers, and interns to support literacy learning through training, volunteer management, and best practices. By building and supporting community-based literacy programs, we strengthen local literacy services and expand resources, skills, and local support systems to build long-term community capacity.

Additionally, the National Indigenous Programs Community Coordinator is the lead support for initiatives and programs in collaboration with Indigenous communities and organizations. This helps to ensure learning opportunities are culturally relevant, community-driven, and responsive to local priorities. We work alongside Indigenous partners to support the development and delivery of literacy programming, while creating, adapting, and curating educational resources that reflect Indigenous knowledge, cultures, languages, and ways of learning.

This team is also responsible for specific online adult literacy programs, including NOAL and the Learning Disabilities Project.
